Most music photography documents a performance. What interests me is documenting the experience behind it - the creative process, the relationships, the musicianship, the tension and joy of bringing something to life.

In June 2024 I spent time over two weekends with French-Senegalese artist, anaiis, ahead of her London concert at the Southbank Centre, part of Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival (see below). The focus of this, my first such project, was documenting rehearsals, the developing dynamic between her and her choir, and the relationship with choir director and artist, Tawiah - before covering the full day of the performance itself. The result was a more complete record of the creative experience, not just the event.

That's the kind of work I want to do more of. Live performances, yes - but also songwriting sessions, studio recording, production, touring. Anywhere the real story is happening.
